This page covers how we operate as a publication. How we find and verify the specification figures themselves is a separate subject, documented in How we source spec data.
1. Editorial independence
No advertiser, affiliate partner, vehicle manufacturer, dealer or parts supplier has any influence over what we publish. Not over which vehicles we cover, not over what a specification table says, and not over whether an unflattering figure appears.
Advertising on this site is served programmatically. We do not know in advance which ads will appear next to an article, and advertisers cannot request that an article be changed, softened or removed. Affiliate partners have no visibility of our editorial plans and no say in them.
We are not affiliated with any manufacturer. We accept no payment, product, vehicle loan, press trip, hospitality or gift from anyone whose products we write about.
Specification data is factual. If a truck’s real payload is lower than its marketing suggests, we publish the real figure. There is no version of this site where a commercial relationship changes a number.
2. How this site is funded
We think you should know who pays for what you are reading.
3. Bylines and authorship
Every article on this site is written by a named person and carries their byline. We do not publish under invented author names, stock personas or generic staff bylines. A byline means a real member of our team is accountable for that article.
Author pages state who the person is and what they work on. Editorial standards across the site are set by Sameer Patel, founder and editor, who reviews specification tables before release.
Where an article has been fact checked by a second member of the team, that is noted on the article alongside the byline.
4. Use of AI tools
Every site publishing data now has to answer this, so here is our answer plainly.
No specification figure on this site is ever produced by an AI tool. Language models cannot cite a source document and will produce confident, plausible, wrong numbers when they do not have one. For a site whose entire purpose is verified data, that is disqualifying.
What we may use AI tools for
- Drafting and tightening explanatory prose, which a human then rewrites and verifies
- Checking grammar, spelling and readability
- Suggesting structure for an article
- Reformatting data we have already verified from a source document
- Spotting inconsistencies for a human to investigate
What we never use AI tools for
- Producing, estimating or filling in any specification figure
- Deciding what a source document says without a person reading it
- Resolving a conflict between two sources
- Generating an article for publication without human research and review
- Writing anything that appears under a byline as that person’s work when it is not
A human being reads the primary document, enters the figure and signs off on the article. That does not change, whatever tools exist.
5. Fact checking and review
Every article goes through the four-step process set out in How we source spec data, ending with review by a second member of the team who works from the source document rather than from the draft. The reviewer is never the person who wrote the article.
Research, verification and editing are handled by different people. That separation is the only reason the review step means anything, and it is the main practical benefit of having a team of seven rather than a single writer.
6. Corrections
We would rather be told than left wrong. Corrections are handled in three tiers, according to what changed.
We do not delete an article to make an error disappear, and we do not edit a figure silently and hope nobody noticed. A corrected article says it was corrected.
Significant corrections are also recorded in our public corrections log, so the record of what we got wrong is readable in one place rather than scattered across articles.
How to report an error
Write to contact@featureandfit.com with the article URL, the figure as published, the configuration it relates to, what you believe the correct value is, and the document you are comparing against. We check every report against the primary source before changing anything, and we tell you the outcome either way — including when we conclude our figure was right.
7. Updates and publication dates
Articles are revised when a new model year is published, when a source document is revised, when a recall or bulletin affects a configuration we cover, or when a reader reports an error.
We do not change an article’s date to make it look newer than it is. A “last updated” date on this site means the article was substantively reviewed or changed on that date, not that a word was moved to refresh a timestamp. Where an update is substantial, we say what was updated.
When a model year changes enough to warrant it, we publish a new article rather than overwriting the old one, so the earlier year’s data stays available to people who own that vehicle.
8. Conflicts of interest
Members of our editorial team declare any financial interest, employment history or personal relationship that could affect their coverage. Where a conflict exists and cannot be avoided, the person does not work on that coverage.
We accept no gifts, hospitality, press vehicles, product samples, paid travel or payment of any kind from manufacturers, dealers, parts suppliers or their agencies. If that ever changes, this page changes first and the arrangement is disclosed on every affected article.
9. Sponsored content and guest posts
We do not publish sponsored articles, advertorial, paid placements, paid links or guest contributions. We do not sell links in existing articles and we do not exchange them. Requests of this kind are declined without exception and we do not reply to most of them.
If you are a manufacturer or supplier who believes we have a figure wrong, we want to hear from you — as a correction, through the process in section 6, with the document attached. That we will always act on.
10. Documents sent by readers
Readers sometimes send us window stickers, build sheets or door jamb photographs to help resolve a question. These are genuinely useful and we are grateful for them.
We use them to check our tables and identify gaps, never as the published source for a general figure, since they are authoritative for one vehicle only. We do not publish your VIN, your name or any identifying detail from a document you send us without asking you first. How we handle your information generally is in our Privacy policy.
11. Comments
Where comments are open, we moderate them. We remove spam, promotional posts, personal abuse and anything unlawful. We do not remove comments simply for disagreeing with us or for pointing out that we are wrong — a comment identifying a genuine error is the most valuable kind we receive, and we would rather correct the article than hide the comment.
Comments are the opinions of the people who write them and are not checked by us. Do not rely on a figure quoted in a comment.
12. Complaints and right of reply
If you are unhappy with something we have published, write to contact@featureandfit.com setting out the article, the issue and what you would like done. We will look at it and reply.
If you are not satisfied with that reply, escalate to info@featureandfit.com, marked “Editorial escalation”. Escalations are reviewed by the responsible editor, who was not involved in the first response.
If we have described an organisation or a product in terms you believe are inaccurate or unfair, tell us and we will consider a correction, a clarification or publishing your response.
