How Long Is a Silverado 1500 Bed? Full Breakdown by Cab and Bed

How long is a Silverado 1500 bed, really?

A Silverado 1500 bed has a floor length of 69.92, 79.44 or 98.18 inches on 2019–2026 trucks, sold as 5’8″, 6’6″ and 8′ beds. The labels run short of the real floor, and the floor is what a cover, liner or load actually meets.

The three beds in one line

Short is 69.92 inches, standard is 79.44 inches and long is 98.18 inches, all measured at the floor.

Where to go next

  • Cross-shopping two trucks: the table in section 2 and the cab pairings in section 3.
  • Matching a cover or liner to a truck you own: sections 4 and 6.
  • Eyeing a used 2019: section 5 first.

Every cab-and-bed pair also sits in our Silverado 1500 specs by configuration guide.

📍 Check your own vehicle first: Specifications vary by build date, package and market, and two trucks with the same badge can be built differently. Before you buy anything based on this page, confirm against the specifications section of your owner’s manual for your model year and the window sticker or build sheet that shows your cab and bed. If your vehicle disagrees with this page, your vehicle is right.

Nominal vs actual: what each bed name measures

Diagram comparing Silverado 1500 marketing bed labels to actual floor lengths showing 1.4 to 2.2 inch differences
Silverado 1500 bed floors are 1.4–2.2 inches longer than their marketing labels suggest.

Floor length runs 1.44 to 2.18 inches longer than the label suggests on every Silverado 1500 bed.

Marketing label vs floor length

Bed (label)Floor lengthGap vs labelCargo volumeApplies To

Standard (6’6″)79.44 in+1.44 in71.7 cu ftRegular, Double and Crew Cab, 2019–2026
Long (8′)98.18 in+2.18 in89.1 cu ftRegular Cab, 2019–2026

How the gap is calculated

Convert the label to inches (5’8″ is 68, 6’6″ is 78, 8′ is 96) and subtract it from the floor length. The Bed & Cargo Dimension Finder runs the same check against your load.

Cargo volume by bed

Volume climbs from 62.9 to 89.1 cubic feet, so the long bed holds about 42% more than the short one. The standard bed sits 14% above the short bed at 71.7 cubic feet, and the long bed adds another 17.4.

📐 On the Spec Sheet: Chevrolet’s 2026 Silverado 1500 page lists 89.1 cubic feet of standard cargo volume, matching the long-bed figure above.

🔍 What This Spec Means: Floor length is the bed floor measured front to back. It is not the length at the top rail, which this page does not cover.

Pairings, wheelbases and overall lengths: dealer and specification-database figures for 2019, 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Chevrolet’s 2026 page gives an overall-length range of 211–242 inches across all configurations. Trade press reported that 2019 Double Cabs and Regular Cabs reached dealers after the Crew Cab.

Regular Cab: standard or long

Regular Cab trucks pair with the 79.44-inch standard bed or the 98.18-inch long bed. There is no short bed.

Double Cab: standard only

Double Cab trucks come only with the 79.44-inch standard bed.

Crew Cab: short or standard

Crew Cab buyers choose between the 69.92-inch short bed and the 79.44-inch standard bed, and the standard bed adds 9.6 inches of wheelbase. Pick the pair first, then compare weight limits in our guide to payload by cab and bed.

⚠️ Watch Out: Some guides say a Regular Cab can have a short bed. It cannot, so order a cover or liner for the bed your cab actually takes.

Bed width, wheel-well gap and what actually fits

The bed is 71.4 inches wide at the floor and 50.63 inches between the wheel wells, identical on all three Silverado 1500 beds.

Floor width vs wheel-well gap

The wheelhousings narrow the 71.4-inch floor to a 50.63-inch gap, and the box is 22.4 inches deep. Anything wider than 50.63 inches cannot lie flat on the floor between the wheel wells, however long the bed.

Depth, volume and tie-downs

📐 On the Spec Sheet: Chevrolet’s 2026 Silverado 1500 page lists 12 standard tie-downs rated at 500 pounds per corner.

Sheet goods and long items: the dimension check

A 4×8 sheet is 48 by 96 inches nominal. Between the wheel wells it clears by 2.63 inches. Lengthwise, only the 98.18-inch long bed holds 96 inches with the tailgate closed; the standard bed falls 16.56 inches short and the short bed 26.08 inches short.

🔍 What This Spec Means: These are dimension checks, not weight limits. What the truck may carry is set by the Tire and Loading Information label in your driver’s door jamb, and the Payload & Tongue Weight Calculator helps you work out what is left after passengers and gear.

2019 Silverado LD and 2027: do the beds match?

No: the 2019 Silverado 1500 LD bed is 6.5 inches narrower at the floor than the new-body bed.

2019 LD vs 2019 new body

Measurement2019 LD2019 new bodyLD minus newApplies To

Height21.10 in22.4 in−1.30 in2019
Volume61.0 cu ft71.7 cu ft−10.7 cu ft2019

Chevrolet sold the LD alongside the new truck as a continuation of the previous-generation Silverado, according to a Chevrolet spokesperson quoted by Automotive Fleet. The floor is where the gain shows: the gap between the wheel wells barely changed.

🚫 Fits But Shouldn’t: A liner, cover or load plan built from new-body figures will not suit an LD, whose floor is 64.9 inches wide against 71.4 on the new body.

2027: what’s confirmed and what isn’t

GM has not published 2027 bed dimensions in anything we retrieved. Trade reports say cab and bed combinations are unchanged, one outlet lists 5.8-, 6.6- and 8.0-foot beds, and another says Chevrolet has not confirmed the configurations. See our 2027 Silverado 1500 towing capacity guide for what else is known, and re-check bed dimensions once GM publishes them.

Bed length and accessory fit: what to match

Match a cover or liner to your bed’s floor length and model-year range as the maker publishes them, not to the label alone.

AccessoryWhat it must matchWhere to confirmApplies To
Tonneau coverBed length (69.92, 79.44 or 98.18 in) and model-year rangeThe maker’s own fit page2019–2026 new body
Bed linerBed length and model-year rangeThe maker’s own fit page2019–2026 new body

Tonneau covers: what to match

A cover made for the 69.92-inch short bed will not close a 79.44-inch standard bed. Check that the maker lists your model-year range, since the 2019 LD is a different body.

Bed liners: what to match

A liner follows the same rule: the bed length for your cab, within the model years the maker lists. The 79.44-inch standard bed appears on Regular, Double and Crew Cabs, so confirm the maker’s listing names your cab.

Bed-size traps and where to verify your

Four traps cause most wrong-size buys on this truck.

Four traps that cause wrong-size buys

  1. Reading the label as inches: the floor runs 1.44 to 2.18 inches longer.
  2. Treating a 2019 LD as a new-body truck: its floor is 64.9 inches wide against 71.4.
  3. Assuming a Regular Cab can have a short bed: it takes the standard or long bed only.
  4. Assuming 2027 matches: bed dimensions are not yet published.

Confirm it on your own truck

Check the specifications section of your owner’s manual and the window sticker or build sheet for your cab and bed, then measure the floor front to back.

✅ Do This: Compare your measurement with the table in section 2 before ordering anything. If they differ, trust the truck and check the build sheet.

The 2019 LD is a different, narrower bed, and 2027 dimensions are still unpublished. Before you buy a cover, liner or load plan, confirm the figures against your owner’s manual and build sheet.
