Real Silverado 1500 Payload Capacity by Cab, Bed and Engine

Vector illustration showing how Silverado 1500 payload changes with cab, bed, drivetrain, engine and package

Silverado 1500 payload isn’t one number

Silverado 1500 payload capacity belongs to one specific truck, not to the model. Cab, bed, drivetrain, engine and package all move it, and a headline maximum describes only one build.

Cross-shopping two configurations? Use the 2026 table. Sizing for a trailer or gooseneck? Read the Max Trailering and payload-math sections. Buying your first full-size truck? Start with the label section. The 2027 lineup changed, so 2026 figures don’t carry over.

For every other specification, see the full Silverado 1500 configuration guide.

ℹ️ Safety Note: Payload limits are real: exceeding the GVWR or an axle rating affects braking, steering and stability. Figures here are for comparison only.

📍 Check your own vehicle first: Payload varies by build date, package and market, and two Silverados with the same badge can be built differently. Before relying on this page, read the Tire and Loading Information label and the Trailering Information label on the driver-side door jamb, then the Vehicle Load Limits section of the owner’s manual. If your truck disagrees with this page, your truck is right.

2026 Silverado 1500 payload by cab, bed, drivetrain and engine

Vector diagram comparing 2026 Silverado 1500 payload across Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations
As cab size and equipment increase, typical Silverado 1500 payload drops; drivetrain and engine also matter.

2026 Silverado 1500 payload runs from 1,520 to 2,380 lb in one trade publication’s compilation, set by cab, bed, drivetrain, engine and the Max Trailering Package.

Source: GM Authority’s 2026 payload compilation, a trade publication rather than a GM document. Chevrolet’s marketed maximum, as dealers reproduce it, is 2,260 lb on the Regular Cab Long Bed 2WD with the TurboMax, so the 2,380 lb row is unresolved.

Regular Cab and long bed

Regular Cab rows lead, but the top 4WD figure belongs to a 5.3L, not the 2.7L.

Double Cab and Crew Cab

Rows mostly sit near 2,000 lb, and added cab weight can reduce payload.

Lifted and ZR2 variants

ZR2 posts the lowest figure, 1,520 lb (6.2L); lifted variants run below their unlifted twins.

Why 4WD isn’t always lower

Most 4WD rows sit below their 2WD twins. The Regular Cab Long Bed 5.3L reverses it: 2,380 lb against 2,140 lb.

Does the Max Trailering Package raise or lower payload?

Vector illustration showing how the Max Trailering Package can increase Silverado 1500 payload on some configurations
On many V8 and Duramax builds, the Max Trailering Package raises, not reduces, Silverado 1500 payload.

The Max Trailering Package (RPO NHT) raises payload on several V8 rows in this compilation, but not on every row.

Rows where NHT adds payload

It adds 100 lb on the Crew Cab Short Bed 4WD 5.3L and 260 lb on the Double Cab Standard Bed 4WD 6.2L. For towing figures, see tow ratings by engine.

The row that doesn’t fit the pattern

One 5.3L Double Cab Standard Bed 4WD pair is reported moving the other way. That may be a transcription error or a real build difference; the label settles it.

⚠️ Watch Out: Don’t assume a trailering package costs payload, or that it always adds it. The effect changes by row, so read your truck’s label before sizing a trailer.

2027 Silverado 1500 payload: new engines, new numbers

The 2026 model is the final year of the current generation, so the 2027 Silverado 1500 starts over and 2026 payload figures don’t transfer.

What was dropped and added

Chevrolet has confirmed four 2027 engines: an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax, two new V8s and the 3.0L Duramax, with 5.7L and 6.6L V8s replacing the 5.3L and 6.2L. See 2027 towing ratings.

What isn’t published here yet

Payload by cab, bed and drivetrain for 2027 isn’t confirmed against GM documentation, so this page gives none.

⚠️ Watch Out: Don’t apply 5.3L or 6.2L payload figures to a 2027 truck; those engines aren’t in the 2027 lineup.

What counts against payload before you load the bed

Payload covers passengers and everything carried in the cab and bed, including the trailer’s tongue weight.

People and accessories

Passengers, toolboxes, tonneau covers and running boards all subtract from the maximum on your truck’s label.

Tongue weight on a conventional trailer

One dealer guide puts tongue weight at 10–15% of trailer weight; confirm your truck’s maximum tongue weight on its label.

Gooseneck and fifth-wheel pin weight

Pin weight lands in the bed, and Chevrolet’s trailering guide publishes gooseneck and fifth-wheel ratings for select configurations only; see Chevrolet’s trailering guide page.

🔍 What This Spec Means: Payload isn’t cargo weight. It’s the label’s capacity minus everyone and everything already aboard, before tongue or pin weight is added.

Which Silverado 1500 configuration fits which load

Match the load to a row, then confirm on the truck.

Highest published payload rows

Regular Cab Long Bed rows lead this 2026 compilation. Choose by the cab and bed you need, then check what that exact build carries.

Crew Cab trade-offs

Crew Cabs seat more people and typically list lower payload; a family’s weight counts against it before cargo does.

📐 On the Spec Sheet: Chevrolet’s 2026 Silverado 1500 Max Trailering chart says its maximum ratings are for comparison only and points buyers to the owner’s manual’s Trailering section. See Chevrolet’s 2026 Max Trailering chart.

Where to confirm the payload on the truck you’re buying

Two labels at the driver-side door jamb settle the number for a specific truck.

The door-jamb labels

The Tire and Loading Information label shows the vehicle’s capacity weight. Chevrolet’s Trailering Information label lists GVWR, GCWR, rear GAWR, maximum payload, maximum tongue weight and curb weight. See the loading section of the 2026 Silverado owner’s manual.

Canadian numbers and model-year mix-ups

Canadian-spec pages list figures like 986 kg (2,174 lb) for some Crew Cab trims, which don’t match a US label. Likewise, 2026 figures don’t describe 2027 trucks.

✅ Do This: Photograph the label, then ask the dealer to confirm the maximum payload and maximum tongue weight for that VIN, in writing, before you size a trailer.

2. Which Silverado 1500 has the highest payload?

In the 2026 compilation, Regular Cab Long Bed rows lead: 2,380 lb with the 5.3L in 4WD, 2,260 lb with the 2.7L in 2WD. Confirm on the label.

3. Does the Max Trailering Package change Silverado 1500 payload?

Yes on several compiled V8 rows, adding 100 to 260 lb in the pairs shown; one 5.3L pair reads the other way. Confirm on the label.

4. Does a Crew Cab have less Silverado 1500 payload than a Regular Cab?

In the 2026 compilation, Crew Cab rows mostly sit near 2,000 lb, below Regular Cab Long Bed rows at 2,120 to 2,380 lb. Confirm on the label.

5. Does 4WD reduce Silverado 1500 payload?

Usually: most compiled 4WD rows sit below their 2WD twins, but the Regular Cab Long Bed 5.3L reverses it, 2,380 lb against 2,140 lb. Confirm on the label.

7. Where do I find my Silverado 1500 payload capacity?

On the driver-side door-jamb labels: the Tire and Loading Information label shows capacity weight, and the Trailering Information label lists maximum payload.

8.What counts against Silverado 1500 payload capacity?

Occupants, cargo in the cab and bed, accessories such as toolboxes and tonneau covers, and trailer tongue weight all count. Confirm your figure on the label.

9. Can a Silverado 1500 pull a gooseneck trailer?

Chevrolet publishes gooseneck and fifth-wheel ratings for select Silverado 1500 configurations only, and pin weight lands in the bed, counting against payload. Confirm the rating and label for your VIN.

10. Do Canadian payload figures apply to US trucks?

No. Canadian dealer pages list Canadian-spec figures, such as 986 kg (2,174 lb) on some Crew Cab trims; use your own truck’s label.

Check the label, not the headline

Silverado 1500 payload follows cab, bed, drivetrain, engine and package, and 2027 starts over with new engines. Use the 2026 rows to shortlist, not to decide. Before you buy, read both door-jamb labels on the exact truck, subtract passengers, accessories and tongue or pin weight, and walk away if what remains doesn’t cover your load.
