Three trucks share the Silverado name: the 2019 LD, the 2022 LTD, and the refreshed 2022 Silverado.

Which one is in your listing?

A listing that says 2022 Silverado can be one of two different trucks, and “LD” is a third. The Silverado 1500 LTD is the 2019–2021 design sold as a 2022 model, while the Silverado 1500 LD was an older-generation carryover from 2019.

What this page settles

It shows how to place any truck, what each offers, and what to confirm before you spend money. Chevrolet built the LTD only as a stop-gap until the refreshed truck arrived, so the pair overlap only in model year 2022.

ℹ️ Safety Note: Tow ratings depend on your exact build, and exceeding one affects braking and stability, not just performance. The figures here are for comparison; against the Trailering Information Label and owner’s manual for your VIN before hitching anything.

📍 Check your own vehicle first: Specifications vary by build date, package and market, and two trucks with the same badge can be built differently. Before you buy anything based on this page, confirm against the window sticker or build sheet, the Trailering Information Label on the doorframe, the tire and loading placard on the driver-side pillar, and the owner’s manual for your exact truck. If your vehicle disagrees with this page, your vehicle is right.

LD vs LTD vs the 2022 refresh, side by side

The LD is the older generation; the LTD and refresh are both newer.

The LD: last of the older generation

The older K2 truck was sold only as a Double Cab alongside the redesign, as a continuation run of the previous truck.

The LTD: the 2019–2021 design with a 2022 label

It continues the 2021 truck’s trims, options and colors, with a few deletions.

The refresh: new face, new cabin on LT and up

Every refreshed trim gets a new front end; only LT and above get the new cabin.

🔍 What This Spec Means: GM Authority also uses “LD” for “light-duty,” meaning any half-ton Silverado. Here, “LD” means Chevrolet’s 2019 older-generation carryover.

How to tell an LTD from a refreshed 2022

How to identify a 2022 Silverado LTD versus a refreshed 2022 Silverado using front end, cabin, and paperwork vector diagram.
Check the front end, cabin, and window sticker or build sheet to confirm whether a 2022 Silverado is an LTD or the refreshed model.

Check the front end first, then the cabin, then confirm on paper.

From the front

Every refreshed trim has a redesigned front end with lower headlights; an LTD keeps the older face.

Inside the cabin

On LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country, look for the 13.4-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cluster. An LTD has the older cabin.

⚠️ Watch Out: On Work Truck, Custom and Custom Trail Boss, the refresh kept the older cabin, so the cabin test proves nothing. Use the front end and the paperwork.

On paper

Ask for the window sticker or build sheet, and check the owner’s manual for your truck’s exact name.

Engines and trims: what the LTD kept and dropped

Both trucks offer the same four engines, but the LTD dropped options the 2021 truck had.

Engines

  • 2.7L turbo four, 310 hp
  • 5.3L V8, 355 hp
  • 6.2L V8, 420 hp
  • 3.0L Duramax diesel, 277 hp

Both 2022 trucks; trim availability varies. Source: GM’s spec sheet via GM Authority.

What the LTD deleted

The LTD dropped the 4.3L V6, the 5.3L L82 V8 and its E85 capability, and the six-speed automatic.

What only the refresh offers

The refresh’s 2.7L makes over 20% more torque than the LTD’s 348 lb-ft (GM estimated 420; later reports say 430). The ZR2 is refresh-only.

GM Authority reported the 6.2L and diesel became unorderable on the refresh for the rest of 2022, so check the sticker. Other years are in Silverado 1500 engines by year.

Towing: why one number won’t fit every truck

The 13,300-pound figure belongs to specific refreshed 2022 builds.

Refreshed 2022 only. Source: GM’s 2022 spec sheet via GM Authority.

What 13,300 pounds requires

📐 On the Spec Sheet: Chevrolet ties the 13,300 to a Double Cab 2WD with the 3.0L Duramax, or a Double Cab Standard Bed RST 4×4 with the 6.2L, each with Max Trailering and 20-inch wheels.

Finding an LTD’s rating

The LTD lost the Custom Max Trailering Package, and its diesel rating is well below the refresh’s. Read an LTD’s rating off its own labels, never a refreshed-truck chart. Other builds: Max Trailering Package, towing capacity by engine.

✅ Do This: Read the rated maximum trailer weight off the Trailering Information Label on your truck’s doorframe, then confirm it in the owner’s manual trailering section.

LTD or refresh: which fits your use?

Match the truck to what you need, not to the badge.

If the cabin and screen matter

Only LT-and-above refreshed trucks have the 13.4-inch screen and new cabin. On WT, Custom and Custom Trail Boss, both trucks share the older cabin.

If you want a ZR2 or the newer engine tune

Only the refresh offers the ZR2 and the higher-torque 2.7L.

If “new” means a current truck

A 2022 truck isn’t today’s truck; for later years see Silverado 1500 trim levels. Check the sticker and current listing price; this page makes no price comparison.

Fitment traps and where to check your truck

A listing or parts page that says “2022 Silverado” may mean either truck.

Listings that just say “2022 Silverado”

🚫 Fits But Shouldn’t: A front-end or cabin part listed for “2022 Silverado” may be for the other truck: Chevrolet changed the front end on every refreshed trim and the cabin on LT and above. Interchange isn’t established; confirm by part number and VIN, then check the part against your truck.

Where to confirm which truck you have

Chevrolet’s manuals page searches by year, make and model, not VIN, and the 2022 Silverado 1500 and 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD have separate manuals. Use the window sticker, build sheet and doorframe labels first.

Silverado LTD vs refresh: common questions

1. What is the Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD?

The Silverado 1500 LTD is a 2022 model that carries over the 2019–2021 truck’s design while Chevrolet prepared the refreshed Silverado.

2. Is the 2022 Silverado LTD the old body style?

Yes. The LTD keeps the 2019–2021 design; the refreshed 2022 changed every trim’s front end and the cabin on LT and above.

3. Is the Silverado LD the same as the LTD?

No. The LD was a 2019 older-generation Double Cab; the Silverado LTD is a 2022 carryover of the newer 2019–2021 design.

4. Does the 2022 Silverado LTD have the new interior?

No. The refreshed 2022 cabin with the 13.4-inch screen is on LT and above, and only on the refreshed truck.

5. Which 2022 Silverado trims have the 13.4-inch touchscreen?

LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country have the 13.4-inch touchscreen; Work Truck, Custom and Custom Trail Boss keep the older cabin.

6. What engines did the 2022 Silverado LTD offer?

A 2.7L turbo four, a 5.3L V8, a 6.2L V8 and a 3.0L Duramax diesel, with availability varying by trim.

7. Can you get a ZR2 as a Silverado LTD?

No. The ZR2 was new for the refreshed 2022 Silverado and wasn’t offered on the LTD.

8. Is 13,300 pounds the tow rating for every 2022 Silverado?

No. On the refreshed truck it needs a specific Double Cab build with Max Trailering and 20-inch wheels. Verify on your doorframe label.

9. Do parts for a 2022 Silverado fit an LTD?

Not by assumption. The LTD and refresh differ in front end and, on LT and above, cabin, so confirm by part number and VIN.

10. Where can I confirm which 2022 Silverado I have?

Use the window sticker or build sheet and the doorframe labels, then pick the matching owner’s manual: 2022 Silverado 1500 or 1500 LTD.

Before you buy

Three trucks share one name: the LD is a 2019 older-generation truck, the LTD is the 2019–2021 design sold as a 2022, and the refresh changed every front end and, on LT and above, the cabin. Before you buy a truck or order a part, confirm which one you have on its own window sticker, doorframe labels and owner’s manual.
