Exact F-150 Bed Dimensions for Every Cab and Box, 2021–2026

F-150 Bed Dimensions comparison showing 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot beds with 67.1, 78.9, and 97.6 inch floor lengths.

How big is an F-150 bed, really?

The F-150’s three bed names (5.5, 6.5 and 8 feet) are labels, not tape-measure readings. Ford’s spec sheets put the 2021–2026 F-150 boxes at 67.1, 78.9 and 97.6 inches long at the floor. All three are 50.6 inches wide between the wheel wells.

The three boxes in one line

At the floor, the 5.5-ft box is 67.1 inches, the 6.5-ft box is 78.9 inches, and the 8-ft box is 97.6 inches. Each is longer than its name at the floor, and two are shorter than their names at the top rail.

Which section answers your question

  • Cross-shopping cabs: the matrix below shows which cab gets which box.
  • Sizing a load like plywood: go to the 4×8 sheet section.
  • Matching a tonneau cover or liner: go to the accessory section.
  • Towing or heavy hauling: bed size won’t answer that question. Start with our F-150 specs by configuration or the F-150 towing capacity by engine chart.

ℹ️ Safety Note: Payload is how much weight a truck can carry, and it’s set by the exact build, not the bed size. Exceeding it affects braking and handling. The dimensions here tell you what fits, not what’s safe to carry, so check the door-jamb label of the specific truck before loading anything heavy.

📍 Check your own vehicle first: Specifications vary by build date, package and market, and two trucks with the same badge can be built differently. Before you buy anything based on this page, confirm the box length and cab on the window sticker or VIN build sheet. Measure the wheel-well gap yourself, and read payload from the door-jamb label. If your vehicle disagrees with this page, your vehicle is right.

Which F-150 cab comes with which bed, 2021–2026

Bed length is set by the cab and wheelbase you choose. Ford’s cargo tables list dimensions by box size only, with no difference by engine or drivetrain.

F-150 Bed Dimensions compatibility chart showing Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew trucks with available 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot beds.
Regular Cab offers 6.5-foot and 8-foot beds, SuperCab uses the 6.5-foot bed, and SuperCrew is available with 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot beds.

Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew boxes

In Ford’s 2026 dimension tables, the Regular Cab is the only cab with the 8-ft box. The SuperCab is listed with the 6.5-ft box, and the SuperCrew with the 5.5-ft or 6.5-ft box. See Ford’s 2026 F-150 technical specifications.

⚠️ Watch Out: Some dealer pages list a SuperCrew with an 8-ft bed, but Ford’s 2026 dimension tables don’t include one. If you need four full doors and 8 feet of floor, a 2026 F-150 can’t give you both. Confirm the box on the window sticker before you commit.

Raptor, Tremor and Lightning exceptions

Ford’s 2026 sheet lists the Raptor 5.5-ft box at 67.2 inches, 0.1 inch longer than standard. We didn’t check earlier Raptor years against Ford documents. The Tremor uses the standard 5.5-ft box, and the F-150 Lightning is SuperCrew-only with a 5.5-ft bed that Ford’s launch specs list at 67.1 inches.

Real inches vs the feet on the window sticker

Ford measures the box twice, at the floor and at the top of the bedsides. The two figures miss the label in opposite directions.

Sources: Floor lengths from the Ford 2021 and 2026 spec sheets. Top lengths from the Ford F-150 Body Builders Layout Book (2021 and 2023 model-year ). Nominal is 66, 78 and 96 inches.

Floor length: longer than the label

At the floor, every box beats its nominal length by roughly an inch or more. Floor length is the figure that matters for anything lying flat. Our 2021 F-150 spec sheet source from Ford shows the same numbers as 2026.

Rail length: shorter on two of the three boxes

At the top of the bedsides, the 5.5-ft and 6.5-ft boxes come up short of their names. The 8-ft box misses by a tenth of an inch. Ford’s 2026 spec sheet doesn’t publish top length, so these figures come from Ford’s body-builder documentation.

🚫 Fits But Shouldn’t: Something sized to “6.5 feet” (78 inches) that sits at bedside height is longer than the 77.2-inch top length Ford lists for that box. It can clear the floor and still bind at the rails. Size anything that rides at rail height to the top-length figure, not the box name.

Will a 4×8 sheet fit flat in an F-150 bed?

Width limits more loads than length does, and all three F-150 boxes share the same width figures.

📐 On the Spec Sheet: Ford’s F-150 Body Builders Layout Book (2021 and 2023 model-year) lists identical figures for the 5.5, 6.5 and 8-ft boxes: 50.6 inches cargo width at the wheelhouse, 65.2 inches maximum inside width at the floor, and 60.3 inches rear opening width. Ford’s 2026 spec sheet confirms the 50.6-inch figure and a 21.4-inch inside height at the molding.

Width between the wheel wells vs the widest point

Anything that runs past the wheel wells is limited by the 50.6-inch wheel-well gap. The 65.2-inch maximum applies only ahead of and behind the wells. The 60.3-inch rear opening is the widest load that slides in past the tailgate.

F-150 Bed Dimensions diagram showing how a 4 by 8 plywood sheet fits in 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot truck beds.
A 4×8 sheet fits flat with the tailgate closed only in the 8-foot F-150 bed; 5.5-foot and 6.5-foot beds require the tailgate down.

Tailgate up or down, by box

Every box clears a 48-inch-wide sheet between the wells. Length decides the rest:

  • 8-ft box: a 96-inch sheet lies flat with the tailgate closed, on 97.6 inches of floor.
  • 6.5-ft box: 78.9 inches of floor leaves about 17 inches of the sheet past the tailgate.
  • 5.5-ft box: 67.1 inches leaves about 29 inches past the tailgate.

🔍 What This Spec Means: Even in the 8-ft box, the length at the top is 95.9 inches, shorter than a 96-inch sheet. A stack that rises toward rail height can hit the tailgate or front wall before the bottom sheets do, so keep tall stacks in mind when loading.

Matching a tonneau cover or liner to your box

Covers, liners and mats are sold by box length and model year, so those are the two specs to match.

The two specs every listing must state

A listing should name the box length (5.5, 6.5 or 8 ft) and a model-year range that includes your truck. Ford’s 2021 and 2026 spec sheets list identical floor lengths, but check whether the listing calls out the Raptor or Lightning separately.

Why “fits 2015+” needs checking

Ford’s 2016 F-150 specifications list the same box dimensions as 2021. Matching dimensions don’t prove that mounting points, rails or tailgate hardware match, though. Confirm cross-generation fitment with the accessory maker, not a retailer’s fit tool.

A bigger bed doesn’t mean a heavier load

A longer bed holds more volume, but it doesn’t raise how much weight the truck can carry.

Payload lives on the door-jamb label

Ford says maximum payload varies with accessories and vehicle configuration, and points owners to the door-jamb label for a specific truck’s carrying capacity. Two trucks with the same 8-ft box can carry different weights. Our F-150 payload capacity chart shows how payload changes by configuration.

Hauling with the tailgate down

Every pound in the bed counts against payload, including cargo hanging past the lowered tailgate. Rules for marking overhanging loads vary by state, so check yours before driving.

✅ Do This: Before buying a truck for hauling, read the payload figure off the door-jamb label of that exact truck. If your loads will run close to it, ask a Ford dealer service advisor for the payload for that VIN, and whether added equipment such as a liner, cover or toolbox reduces it.

Why sites disagree, and where to check your truck

Published F-150 bed figures differ mostly because of which document each source copied.

Three figures that don’t match Ford’s current specs

  • 51.1 inches between the wheel wells appears in at least one version of Ford’s own 2021 dealer spec document. Ford’s 2021 and 2026 spec sheets and its body-builder book list 50.6.
  • 78 inches for the 6.5-ft box is the nominal length. Ford lists 78.9 inches at the floor.
  • A SuperCrew with an 8-ft box isn’t in Ford’s 2026 dimension tables.

Your three-step check

  1. Confirm the cab and box on the window sticker or build sheet.
  2. Tape-measure the floor length and the wheel-well gap.
  3. Read the payload figure from the door-jamb label.

F-150 bed dimensions: frequently asked questions

1. How long is a 5.5 ft F-150 bed in inches?

A 2021–2026 F-150 5.5-ft bed measures 67.1 inches at the floor, per Ford, or 67.2 inches on the 2026 Raptor.

2. Is the F-150 6.5 ft bed really 6.5 feet?

The F-150 6.5-ft bed measures 78.9 inches at the floor, just over 6.5 feet. Ford’s layout book lists 77.2 inches at the top rail, just under.

3. How wide is an F-150 bed between the wheel wells?

Ford lists 50.6 inches between the wheel wells on every 2021–2026 F-150 bed, with 65.2 inches at the floor’s widest point.

4. How deep is an F-150 bed?

Ford lists the F-150 bed’s inside height at 21.4 inches, measured at the molding, for all three 2021–2026 box lengths.

5. Can you get an F-150 SuperCrew with an 8 ft bed?

Not for 2026. Ford’s dimension tables list the F-150 SuperCrew only with the 5.5-ft and 6.5-ft beds.

6. Does the F-150 Raptor have a different bed length?

Slightly. Ford’s 2026 spec sheet lists the F-150 Raptor 5.5-ft bed at 67.2 inches at the floor, against 67.1 for the standard box.

7. What bed does the F-150 Lightning have?

The F-150 Lightning comes only as a SuperCrew with a 5.5-ft bed, which Ford’s launch specs list at 67.1 inches long.

8. Will a 4×8 sheet fit in an F-150 bed with the tailgate up?

Only in the 8-ft F-150 bed. Its 97.6 inches of floor length and 50.6 inches between the wheel wells clear a 96-by-48-inch sheet. Check the door-jamb payload label before loading a heavy stack.

9. Did F-150 bed dimensions change from 2021 to 2026?

No. Ford’s 2021 and 2026 F-150 spec sheets list identical bed lengths, widths, heights and volumes. The 2026 sheet adds a 67.2-inch Raptor figure.

10. Do all F-150 beds have the same width?

Yes. Ford lists the same 50.6-inch wheel-well width, 65.2-inch maximum floor width and 60.3-inch rear opening for all three F-150 beds.

Before you buy: match the box, then the build

Choose the box by floor length for flat loads and by top length for anything at rail height. Remember that 50.6 inches between the wheel wells is the width limit on every 2021–2026 F-150. Then confirm the box on the window sticker and the payload on the door-jamb label of the truck you’re buying.
