Tundra Payload Capacity by Trim: Factory 2026 Figures
Tundra payload capacity on the door-frame placard is the limit that counts, and dealer-added accessories can lower it. Here’s how each 2026 grade compares.

Table of Contents
How much can a 2026 Tundra actually carry?
The 2026 Toyota Tundra is rated for up to 1,940 pounds of payload, but only the SR and SR5 reach that in their best-case configuration. Every other grade, and most trucks on a dealer lot, carry less.
The range, top to bottom
Toyota’s 2026 maximums run from 1,940 lb on the SR and SR5 to 1,600 lb on the TRD Pro and lower still on the Capstone. Payload covers occupants, cargo and factory options combined.
The five things that move your number
Grade, powertrain, cab, bed length and 4×2 versus 4×4 all change it. Start where you are:
- Comparing trims? Go to the trim tables.
- Sizing for a trailer or camper? Jump to the payload budget.
- Looking at a specific truck? Read the door-frame section first.
For engine, cab and bed specs beyond payload, see our full Tundra specs by configuration.
ℹ️ Safety Note: Payload is a rated limit, and exceeding it affects braking, steering and tire load, not just ride height. The figures on this page are for comparing configurations. Your truck’s own limit is printed on its door frame.
📍 Check your own vehicle first: Specifications vary by build date, package and market, and two trucks with the same badge can be built differently. Before you buy based on this page, read the Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver’s-side door pillar of that exact truck. If your vehicle disagrees with this page, your vehicle is right.

⚠️ Watch Out: “1,940 lb” is the SR/SR5 ceiling, not a Tundra-wide figure. A Platinum or TRD Pro starts 220–340 lb below it before you add a single option.
Why the same trim can carry less: cab, bed and 4×4

Toyota calculates payload capacity as gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) minus curb weight. Anything that adds curb weight faster than it raises GVWR takes pounds off the payload line.
Double Cab vs CrewMax
The Double Cab is offered on the SR and SR5 only; every grade from Limited up is CrewMax. The larger cab weighs more, so expect a CrewMax SR or SR5 to sit below that grade’s 1,940-lb ceiling.
Bed length: a heavier truck, not a stronger one
🚫 Fits But Shouldn’t: Assuming the 8.1-ft bed means more capacity. In Canadian-market 2026 data, the 4×2 Double Cab SR long bed carries a higher GVWR (7,165 vs 7,035 lb) but less payload (850 vs 880 kg). The extra length adds more weight than rating.
4×2 vs 4×4
The 4×4 system adds a transfer case and front driveline, which raises curb weight. Compare the 4×2 and 4×4 rows for your grade before assuming they match.
What the i-FORCE MAX hybrid costs you in payload
On grades offered with both engines, the i-FORCE MAX hybrid carries less than the gas i-FORCE V6.
Limited, Platinum and 1794: gas vs hybrid
| Grade | Gas (lb) | Hybrid (lb) | Difference | Applies To |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Limited | 1,860 | 1,680 | −180 | 2026 CrewMax, grade maximums |
| Platinum | 1,720 | 1,655 | −65 | 2026 CrewMax, grade maximums |
| 1794 Edition | 1,720 | 1,655 | −65 | 2026 CrewMax, grade maximums |
Calculated from Toyota’s 2026 grade maximums above; payload includes occupants, cargo and options.
The hybrid adds power and torque; the cost is measured in pounds. If you’re weighing that trade for a trailer, see how the hybrid’s towing compares with the gas engine.
TRD Pro and Capstone are hybrid-only
There’s no gas version of either, so the TRD Pro and Capstone figures are fixed trades, not choices.
The payload number that counts is on your door frame
Your Tundra’s real payload limit is on the driver’s side, not in the brochure. Look in three places:
- The Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver’s-side door pillar.
- Toyota’s Load Carrying Capacity label on the driver’s doorjamb.
- The window sticker, to confirm the cab, bed, drive and options.
What Toyota’s payload figure is
📐 On the Spec Sheet: Toyota states that its payload capacity is GVWR minus curb weight and should be used for comparison purposes only. The maximum passenger and cargo weight is the Load Carrying Capacity on the driver’s doorjamb label.
What the placard tells you
🔍 What This Spec Means: Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 requires a placard stating that the combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed a set figure. That’s your number.
Dealer accessories lower it
Running boards, bed covers and lift kits all add weight. According to NHTSA’s interpretation of the loading placard rule, if added equipment lowers the true capacity below the placard, the dealer must replace the placard.
Building a payload budget before you buy
A payload budget is subtraction: start with the placard and remove everything the truck will carry.
What counts against payload
- Start with the placard figure.
- Subtract every occupant.
- Subtract cargo in the bed and cab.
- Subtract accessories added after the factory.
- Subtract the trailer’s tongue weight.
✅ Do This: Before you sign, ask the dealer to show you the placard on that VIN and confirm the trailer’s loaded tongue weight from its manufacturer. Then check Tundra towing capacity by trim alongside it. Toyota’s owner’s manuals list the towing and loading rules for your model year.
Payload traps: what looks like more capacity but isn’t
Some upgrades change how a truck rides under load without changing what it’s rated to carry.
Airbags and helper springs
🚫 Fits But Shouldn’t: Using airbags or helper springs to carry more than the placard. They can level a sagging truck, but the placard figure is set by Toyota’s GVWR, and these parts don’t change it.
The 2027 Tundra: figures not yet published
Toyota revealed a refreshed 2027 Tundra, including an SR5-based Trailhunter package, but hasn’t published payload figures. Per Toyota’s 2027 Tundra announcement, full specifications arrive in fall 2026. Until then, these 2026 figures don’t transfer.

8. Where is the payload sticker on a Tundra?
The Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver’s-side door pillar states the Tundra’s maximum combined occupant and cargo weight.
9. Does tongue weight count against Tundra payload?
A trailer’s tongue rests on the truck, so plan it inside your Tundra payload budget. Confirm in your owner’s manual.
10. Can airbags increase Tundra payload?
No. Airbags can level a sagging truck, but Tundra payload on the placard comes from Toyota’s GVWR. Confirm with your dealer.
Read the placard before you sign
A Tundra’s payload is three numbers: Toyota’s 1,940-pound ceiling, the lower figure for the grade and configuration you choose, and the placard on the truck you actually buy. Only the last one is your limit. Read it, subtract your people, gear and trailer, and use the calculator above before committing.
